It’s Citrus Fest at Central Market, so Blood Orange is the inspiration for tonight’s cocktail. Blood & Bourbon can be a touch sweet depending on the sweetness of the juice - so a higher proof is ok. Not thinking this through in advance I went with the Lone Elm (90 proof) tonight. Aztec Chocolate Bitters and Orange Ancho Syrup pair well with the Blood Orange.
Blood and Bourbon
2 ounces bourbon (higher proof works well)
1.50 ounces freshly squeezed blood orange juice
1 ounce simple syrup (or to taste)
.25 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters (or Aztec Chocolate bitters)
Directions:
Fill shaker with ice.
Add ingredients to shaker.
Shake until chilled.
Strain into chilled rocks glass.
Garnish with a blood orange slice.
Cheers!
Notes:
You can use regular orange juice, but the blood orange juice gives it a richer flavor.
